selene’s watchful
face stares into the window;
she asks — do you see?
i found myself alone on the highway through the green mountains. i had never been to vermont before yesterday, and it was everything i had hoped. it was muggy and warm when i got to my destination; i wandered through crowds of people who all knew each other, and i felt lonely. the mountains embraced the town in a gentle hug; the sun began to set, turning the soft, fluffy clouds pale orange. a breeze shuffled down the main thoroughfare, and the temperature dropped a little. i met a beautiful silver lab, and then met him a second time when he came by and shoved his face in my purse. the light faded as music filled the blocked off intersection.
and then it was over. as i made my way back to my hotel several states away, i found myself more or less alone on the road. just me and the moon, shining orange over the trees. i poured out my sorrows, and Selene listened.
