a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who read and liked my posts during national poetry writing month! your support means so much to me, and i appreciate it more than you know. i had so much fun during april, reading inventive, moving, stunning poems all over the internet; i will add a link to the menu soon for quick access to my collection for april if you missed a day.

today’s poem, as the title of the posts suggests, is a mystery to me. i definitely wrote it, and i think i wrote it on my computer, which might be why my memory around it is so fuzzy.

bury me beneath ivory
secure my coffin with wire
hammer down
hammer down
close the lid
leave me in here
to become a home for spiders
let their babies stream from my nasal cavity
like blood rushing to signal my death

building a wall
so that all the pieces fit
terror and elation are twins
who use my heart as a playground
teetering on a seesaw
swinging in wide arcs
screams echoing as they leap
into the air, limbs akimbo
to crash down into my left ventricle
it leaves a mark every time
every time
every time i say goodbye
